Durham Symphony Orchestra

The symphony, composed of volunteers, gives free concerts throughout the year.

Hayti Heritage Center: St. Joseph’s Performance Hall

The center is located in the St. Joseph’s African Methodist Episcopal Church. African Americans built this church in 1891 with the supports of whites from the community. The center is home to the old Hayti archival collection and host many performances from musical to theatrical.

Theater

Carolina Theater

The theater is host to musical events from blues to jazz, a variety of plays and ballets, comedians and film festivals. It is a great location for all kinds of arts events. Check out their website for the 2007 lineup.

Art Galleries/Museums

North Carolina Museum of Art

The museum is home to a standing collection that highlights a variety of art, and has special exhibits throughout the year.

Durham Arts Council

The arts council is a nonprofit organization that supports the arts in Durham. It is home to three art galleries, art classes, provides grants, and sponsors many exciting events throughout the year. A few of their annual events are listed below.

Durham Arts Walk

The arts walk is a self-guided walking studio tour in downtown Durham.
